It would be nice to know the whereabouts of Allan Knowles. He was the O’Hara warden doing my time at Yoho. His daily hiking patrols were legendary and to hike them in short sleeves as well. I visited Al in the off season in Vancouver and he took me to an Asian restaurant where I had the best hot and sour soup ever. My favourite Allan story was of his shopping trips to Golden where on his return to Yoho he’d always stop along the TCH to eat his tub of ice cream before it melted. I don’t think any of us ever thought of Allan having that kind of sweet tooth. A legend indeed.

Thanks, Terry. I look forward to reading your oral history. I believe you live in Smithers. I lived there for three years and work as Regional Manager for the Fish &Wildlife Branch. Great little town. Cheers, David.

Who knew? Thanks for the warden refresher, David, for some old but once-familiar names (like Bill Schmaltz) and for introducing me to the life and times of a contemporaneous warden, known by name, only. Now I only have to watch 'Bears & Man'' again, to get fully caught up.
