Peter/Etulu Aningmiuq, was one of the first Inuit Park Wardens (along with Davidee Kooneeliusie) hired by Parks Canada to work at Auyuittuq National Park in 1975. He sadly passed away February 15, 2016 at age 69. Etulu was diagnosed with cancer in November. Peter worked for Parks Canada from February 1975 to September 1987. While he spent most of his career at Auyuittuq, he did spend the good part of a year in Kluane National Park to further broaden his career and work experience. Peter was a well known country and gospel singer-songwriter and musician from Cape Dorset. Etulu was also well known as part of a duo with his first wife, the late Susa, with whom he performed in the 1970s to 2001. “Sad to lose very good friend and good person. It was his call to go home.” Davidee Kooneeliusie, March 1, 2016. For additional information go to the following link: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/etulu-aningmiuq-dies-1.3451834

We recognize the uniform and the flashes that declare his service era and, though we never met, we are saddened to hear the news of his passing. We read his story with joy, however, sharing the same hope in the resurrection to a new creation that will need no defenders. Thank you for your service, Peter, and for your legacy and for your continuing testimony to the truth. The good that men do lives after them, indeed.
