We have lost another one of our Warden Service family with the passing of former park warden Roman Bizon.

On December 28, 2024, a fellow by the name of Roman Bizon passed away at his home at the age of 85.

Roman will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years Maureen, daughters Heidi Schreiner and Natasha (Sheldon) Hilchie and son Dustin (Shannon) Bizon; grandchildren Johnathan (Danielle), Jordan, Emma (Bradley), Matthew (Celeste), Noah (Claire), and Roman; twin brother Mitch, elder brothers Emil and Stanley, and younger sister Victoria. Roman will also be missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Roman was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary Bizon, and by his brothers Bron, Casey and Julian, and sister Helen.

Roman was born and raised in Prosperity, and in his early years worked for both the Alberta Forestry Service and the Parks Canada Warden Service, where he was based in Jasper. Journals from Roman’s years of service, along with a replica service cabin he built in retirement, have been preserved at the Jasper National Park Archives.

After their marriage in 1968, Roman and Maureen settled in the Boyle area where they farmed together for over 30 years before retiring to St. Albert in 2006. Roman loved nature and the outdoors, spending time with the family horses, or out foraging, hunting and fishing. He was a friend to everyone he met, always ready to share in a laugh or a joke, and he will be greatly missed for his stories.

Cremation has taken place with a private family service to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Roman’s name may be made to the Friends of Jasper National Park Association < friendsofjasper.com >

In his own words, the way he wished:

“After 85 years of confinement to a human body; Roman’s spirit has been released to the freedom of the universe, to enjoy an eternity of divine love, peace, happiness, and infinite capability. “
