A Journey of Historical Trails from Jasper to Banff by Rod Wallace and Don Mickle (2001)

A horse trip travelling historical routes from Jasper to Banff. We recorded numerous cultural resources that are still found along these routes.

Rod Wallace, Jasper Warden Service and Don Mickle, Banff Warden Service travelled a number of historic routes by saddle and pack horse from August 28, 2001 to September 17, 2001.

We did not take the shortest routes but followed various trails that were travelled through history by early peoples – the Stoney (Nakoda), the Blackfoot (Siksika), the Peigan (Pikani), the Sarcee (Tsua T’ina), the Kootenai (K’tunaxa), and the Shuswap of the interior Salish (Secwepeemc) These tribes used portions of the mountains and foothill routes included in this trip. Later the region was used by early European explorers and adventurers.
